The zany cast of WindCity, Winnipeg’s comedy web series, is back for a second season — with all the episodes launching on October 14th.
One of the only things that could be more Winnipeg than WindCity would be a bison, draped in a Jets jersey, waiting to welcome you on the hug rug at the airport (which just maybe a scene in season two).
The series features a host of colourful characters — all played by Winnipeg actors, including now Winnipeg-based Kids in the Hall alum Kevin McDonald in season one — projecting The Peg’s intricacies at notable locations all over the city.
Six-part season one brought existential dilemmas pondered over rye and cokes in front of the Shark Club’s VLTs; mother/daughter bonding at a Bombers game at Investors Group Field; a discussion with a Liquor Mart employee on what wine is most suitable for an “underground pop-up supper club”; and life advice from everyone’s favourite Winnipegger, Ace Burpee, over chicken wings.
Needless to say, it’s The Peg in spades.
Season one sees them quarrelling like Richardson Ground Squirrels trying to carve out territory in Assiniboine Park, but eventually sees them contemplating getting back in the burrow together #anthropomorphisinginthepeg. We leave Dylan as he has just scored big points showcasing the RBC Convention Centre to its board (which, now let’s face it, is an easy sell as that place is now even more stunning with its newly expanded facilities), while Kate has seemingly elected to not move to Toronto.
It may seem all slurpees and rainbows from here on in, but, as the trailer to season two indicates, dark times (by way of Winnipeg’s illuminati — which surely will involve The Hermetic Code Tour at the Manitoba Legislative Building) are heading our protagonist’s way.
What’s sure to follow over the new season is more breezy comedic offerings in some of our city’s prettiest locales, letting audiences (and potential tourists) celebrate in our city’s eccentricities.
The series was created by Paul Vieira and is directed by Darren Wall. Vieira wrote the episodes along with actors Sarah Constible, Trish Cooper and Rebecca Gibson. It is produced with the support of Manitoba Public Insurance, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries, RBC Convention Centre, Red River College, RBC Royal Bank and numerous other brand partners you can find here.
Get caught up by watching season one tonight.
