TH E WINNIPEG INVE STOR
Winnipeg saw a banner year in 2018 for companies expanding
or relocating to the city. Across a variety of industries, the private
sector took notice of our city's competitive advantages and
welcoming business community. The end result was an influx of new
capital and jobs that have helped grow Winnipeg's economy.
In February 2018, Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS) announced
they would be expanding their innovative Work@Home concept
across Manitoba, adding to a growing corporation of over 40,000
employees across 12 countries worldwide. Instead of a regular
contact centre location, HGS provides their employees equipment to
work from a home setting creating job opportunities for people with
mobility impairments or looking to reduce their commuting time and
costs. Winnipeg was a target market for the company because of the
city's diverse population, providing a multilingual and global service.
Once ride-sharing services were permitted to operate in Manitoba
on March 1, 2018, TappCar was the first company to announce
operations in Winnipeg. As a Canadian-based company, TappCar's
business model fit new provincial regulations while providing good
jobs for their employees, including health benefits. Less than six
months into their Winnipeg operations, TappCar's team of drivers
has risen to over 300, representing approximately 125 FTEs while
offering a flexible work schedule.
