As hockey fans around the world witnessed in spring 2018, Winnipeg has some serious passion and knows how to throw an event. Over the course of the Winnipeg Jets playoff run more than 120,500 hockey fans hit the streets for the Winnipeg Whiteout Street Parties (for a comparison, our mid-sized city's population is 749,500 – the smallest market in the NHL) while networks like NBC and publications like the New York Times where charmed by the overall spirit of the city. And while many were basking in the glow of this sudden success the international spotlight, here at Tourism Winnipeg it was no surprise – we've been staging world-class events for years, be it for meetings for a few hundred or for citywides in the thousands at the newly remodelled RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg. Winnipeg's recent track record of hosting wildly successful events to includes the 2017 Canada Summer Games, which featured over 24,000 athletes and fans, the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, the 103 rd CFL Grey Cup, and the 2016 NHL Heritage Classic. While massive annual conferences like the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Skills Canada, the 2016 Liberal Party Biennial Convention, and 2018 Canadian Medical Association have shown that the city as a whole is primed to exceed all of your convention host expectations. On top of that, Winnipeg is also the future host to the Canadian Bureau for International Education 2019 Annual Conference, the 22 nd Professional Conference and Annual Meetings of the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism and Diabetes Canada, and the 2020 Student Youth Travel Association Annual Conference. But it's not just our track record that will wow you. The great thing about a city of our size is you experience small town hospitality with big city amenities, and those first- class amenities just keep getting bigger and brighter. When you host a meeting or convention here you are now doing so against a backdrop that has been truly transformed in the past decade, from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, to the newly revamped Forks Market – a trend setter in Canada with its extensive wine, food and beer hall, to the Journey to Churchill – the world's most comprehensive Arctic species exhibit, all of which are available as offsite venues. On top of that, on the horizon is the $65 million Inuit Art Centre, Canada's Diversity Gardens – a $75 million horticultural centre and event space in Assiniboine Park, and True North Square – the $400 million apex to our Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment District. We'd love to show you firsthand why Winnipeg has quickly become one of North America's top convention cities – one that will show you how midsize is the right size – but until then please read through this magazine to learn how our partners (and indeed our fanbase) are ready, willing and able to put on and cheer you through your next event. Cheers and see you soon!
