62 | Tourism Winnipeg | www.meetingswinnipeg.com What surprised you most about Winnipeg? Winnipeg offers a warmth that is hard to compare. The people especially are so welcoming and helpful that it makes our job that much easier. Favourite Winnipeg restaurant? This is a great question as it is always about personal taste! My take? Try everything! Winnipeg has some great eats and I'm sure they'll be busy during our event! Why did you choose Winnipeg? Each year, the CMA hosts a meeting in the province of its impending president and it rotates from province to province. This year, we will be welcoming Winnipeg-based Dr. Gigi Osler who will become CMA's 152nd president – and the first female surgeon to ever take on the role! Did you find any hidden gems? Needless to say, the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights is spectacular. We are also quite impressed with the expansion of the RBC Convention Centre – which is an important component for our meeting. It offers a great space with lots of flexibility. This year is our inaugural Health Summit, focused on technology and innovation in health care. Having a space like the RBC Convention Centre enables us to "walk the talk." How did Tourism Winnipeg's services help your conference? As we host our annual meetings, we like to offer visitors an opportunity to learn more about the city in which the conference is held. This is why we add Tourism Winnipeg's services to our CMA App as well as our website. This way, our more than 700 participants will find all the information they need in one space! Favourite Winnipeg attraction? I will admit that it has to be the Canadian Museum for Human Rights – this is why we knew immediately that we were going to kick-off our event at this venue! What advice would you give to planners looking to book Winnipeg? As planners, we try to provide our participants with a fulsome experience. It could be easy to underestimate a smaller city like Winnipeg but my advice is to visit the area and talk to people as the city has so much to offer.
