Oak Hammock Marsh Interpretive Centre Located in one of North America's best bird- viewing areas, this birder's paradise is alive with the sights and sounds of the creatures that call this 36 sq. km. wetland home. Oak Hammock Marsh is located only a 20 minute drive north of Winnipeg. The wildlife management area offers 32 kms of hiking trails, marsh boardwalks, canoe excursions and up-close bird viewing opportunities. It is home to 300 different species of birds and many mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish. Identify feathered friends and learn the science and skill of banding birds through hands-on Songbird Banding Tours. During the Bird in the Hand Canadian Signature Experience Tour, you'll literally feel tiny feathers flutter in the palm of your hand before releasing a newly banded songbird into the wild (all part of important migratory research) before heading out into the wetlands on canoes where the smell of blooming wildflowers and close encounters with colourful birds perched atop cattails are always on the agenda. Fall migration at Oak Hammock Marsh is absolutely magical. It plays host to hundreds of thousands of geese, ducks, shorebirds and other species. It is a sight not soon to be forgotten. Large exhibit halls, a 120-seat theatre, scenic café, gift shop and outdoor courtyard combine to offer insight into the value of wetlands. The unique collection of exhibits, attractions and programs is ever-changing, so there is always something new and exciting to see and experience. Oak Hammock Marsh is open year-round.
