Friends of Upper Fort Garry
Upper Fort Garry Provincial Park, where the
Province of Manitoba was born and the decision
was made to join Canada is today revitalized
and re-energized with its stories being told
through interpretation, art and technology in
11 languages. Plinths mark the site of buildings
and the 440 foot long corten steel wall with
its interwoven threads of history and artistic
icons highlight key moments in time from the
original indigenous people through to modern
times. (Canada's largest free-standing public
art installation) The sound and light shows add
another story telling element. Whether young or
someone with experience, the many voices of
Upper Fort Garry as presented through these
innovative approaches makes a visit to the site
fun. Go to upperfortgarry.com for a free app to
open the door to history. Download the app to
your phone or tablet and then when you walk the
site, the history of the fort's buildings and of the
icons on the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Heritage
Wall will be right in your hand in 11 languages
— (text and oral) in English, French, Cree, Ojibwa,
Ukrainian, German, Arabic, Tagalog, Cantonese,
Mandarin, Japanese. A new and exciting way
to experience a unique place and time in
Canada's history.
