32 2018 Annual Report Total Number of SETF Applications Processed in 2018 Special Events Tourism Fund (SETF) 35 applications $185.7 million direct spend 303,000 room nights 193,000 delegates/participants Travis Ross Examples of meetings, conventions, sports and special events that were supported by the Special Events Tourism Fund held in 2018 include: Century 21 Canada 2018 OneC21 (previously Tech 21) 780 delegates Royal Canadian Legion 2018 Dominion Convention 968 delegates Swimming Canada 2018 Canadian Junior Championships 975 participants World Flying Disc Federation 2018 World's Masters Ultimate Club Championships 1,700 participants National Tourism Week Activities Tourism Winnipeg collaborated with industry stakeholders to elevate the importance of the contributions that the tourism sector brings to the local economy during Canada's National Tourism Week (May 27- June 2, 2018). Activities coordinated by Tourism Winnipeg included hosting a dozen mascots at the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport to welcome incoming passengers, holding the Winnipeg Tourism Awards of Distinction which honoured 24 tourism industry stakeholders, launching a Winnipeg photo contest, and recognizing more than 40 Bring it Home ambassadors in a Winnipeg Free Press wrap and luncheon. Visitor Experiences Outreach Tourism Winnipeg delivered 29 frontline training programs at hotels and attractions to enable frontline staff to better serve their guests. That outreach is intended to result in repeat visitations for the hotels/attractions and positive word-of-mouth advertising for the city. Tourism Winnipeg also conducted 11 familiarization tours of local attractions and events for a cumulative total of 405 attendees so frontline staff could better promote Winnipeg's tourism attributes. The Special Events Tourism Fund was established by the city of Winnipeg in 2008 to provide financial assistance in attracting major meetings, conventions, sports and special events to Winnipeg. Since its inception in 2009, there has been a total of $10.8M in commitments for 204 (183 Won and 21 Bidding) events spanning from 2009 to 2023.
