On March 8, 2018, the Bank of Canada revealed its new vertical $10 bill, featuring a
prominent image of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights – the first museum ever
depicted on a Canadian bank note.
The bill also includes a portrait of Viola Desmond, a civil rights pioneer, who took a
stand against racial segregation and has a featured exhibit at the museum.
Other features of the new $10 bill include an excerpt of the Charter of Rights and
Freedoms, and an eagle feather representing Canada's Indigenous Peoples and
their history of demanding human rights.
The new banknote went into circulation in November 2018.
