The Golden Boy, a four-meter
bronze figure is Manitoba's
best known symbol. Embodying
the spirit of enterprise and eternal
youth, the statue gilded in gold
in 1951, is poised atop of the
Manitoba Legislative Building. He
is a runner, like the messengers in
Greek mythology; holds a torch calling
youth to enter the race; faces north
where the province's future lies; and
carries a sheaf of wheat representing
the rich resources of Manitoba.
