18 Structurally Sound The Golden Boy, a four-meter bronze figure is Manitoba's best known symbol. Embodying the spirit of enterprise and eternal youth, the statue gilded in gold in 1951, is poised atop of the Manitoba Legislative Building. He is a runner, like the messengers in Greek mythology; holds a torch calling youth to enter the race; faces north where the province's future lies; and carries a sheaf of wheat representing the rich resources of Manitoba.
