Bobby Hull of the Winnipeg Jets was North America's first million- dollar hockey player. In 1972, Jets founder Benny Hatskin presented Hull with a million-dollar cheque at the corner of Portage and Main, Winnipeg's most famous intersection. Game On! Winnipeg-born skaters Cindy Klassen and Clara Hughes share the distinction of being Canada's all-time most decorated Olympians. Klassen is the only Canadian to win five medals at a single Olympics, while Hughes, also a cyclist, made history by becoming the fourth athlete in history to earn multiple medals in both the summer and winter Olympics. Courtesy xinhuanet.com Pine Street—in Winnipeg's West End—was home to three WWI soldiers who received the Victoria Cross for their bravery in battle. The street was renamed Valour Road in honour of these three courageous citizens, and is now the name of our professional soccer team—Valour FC. 7
