9 Winnipeg is home to North America's largest urban mature elm forest, with approximately 200,000 elm trees living within the city limits. Green With Envy FortWhyte Alive is home to the largest urban bison herd in Canada with 30 to 40 calling this nature oasis home. Opened in 1928, Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, then called Stephenson Field, was the first international airport in Canada.
