YES! Winnipeg has a clear mandate: to promote the city as the ideal location for new business, expansion, investment and top talent. Our expert staff serves as a concierge for businesses, making it easy to grow and invest in Winnipeg through a suite of specialized services, market intelligence and business connections. We're nimble to the needs of the business community and adapt to provide modernized, relevant resources. Strength through collaboration Competing effectively against other, often larger, cities for jobs, investment and talent requires us to leverage our competitive advantages to maximum effect. We are fortunate to be part of a tight-knit community of partners that care about the future of our city. Collaborating and leveraging our partnerships within the province makes YES! Winnipeg stronger, and we all benefit when we work together. Team Manitoba and a better way to capture economic impact When YES! Winnipeg helps a local business expand, or attracts a new investment, the economic impact spreads across our community. These positive impacts often extend beyond the borders of Winnipeg and benefit the broader region. Conversely, investment and growth in the broader region often benefit Winnipeg economically. This is the foundation of Team Manitoba - a collaborative approach by the city, the province, Economic Development Winnipeg and other partner organizations to attract and grow investment. The partnership is designed to put the investor first, regardless of jurisdiction. To measure and quantify these broader impacts and the economic value that results, YES! Winnipeg is working closely with our organization's Market Intelligence team to take a more comprehensive approach to tracking our wins. In the past, we've measured only the direct economic impact associated RIPPLE EFFECT YES! Winnipeg's work can have a profound impact across our community. But how do we better capture and measure this value? with a specific investment or expansion. We've broadened our methodology to include the indirect and induced economic impacts of projects to measure how they affect other parts of our community, and the trickle-down effect of net new annual payroll created by these projects on different sectors of our economy. In short, we want to know the spinoff effects of these projects and how the new income generated by this job creation is spent in our local communities. Our market intelligence experts used 2018 as a basis to study the multiple impacts of new businesses in Winnipeg. That year, YES! Winnipeg had seven successes in six different industries. We measured their direct, indirect and induced impact on Winnipeg's economy: Economic impact of additional jobs Output or industry sales (Millions of dollars) Direct $179.05 Indirect $100.58 Induced $78.73 Total $358.36 Gross domestic product (Millions of dollars) Direct $88.12 Indirect $52.23 Induced $45.20 Total $185.55 Employment (FTE jobs) Direct 1,510 Indirect 572 Induced 463 Total 2,545 the 8 TH E WINNIPEG INVE STOR
