unapologetically old school Resto Gare, and Promenade Café and Wine. Couple this with all the amazing bakeries/ chocolatiers, such as Chocolatier Constance Popp, La Belle Baguette, and Le Croissant. Plus, there's Peasant Cookery in the Exchange District, and our personal favourite, the fun and funky (yet refined in terms of cuisine) Sous Sol, a hidden gem in Osborne Village. For Italian, check out Harth Mozza and Wine Bar, which is as gorgeous as the bite on the house-made pastas rolled out by sous chef Renée Girard, who was featured in a Globe and Mail article titled, "Meet the country's next top chefs." Or do as the Winnipeg Jets and visiting celebrities do and see Pizzeria Gusto in River Heights. In the Exchange District, The Mitchell Block is great for pasta, while its upstairs bar, The Wet & Dry Department, excels at delicious late-night bites served in a hip setting. More small plates in the Exchange come courtesy of Amsterdam Tea Room, whose Scottish co-owner Mark Turner is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to tea cocktails, while Cordova Tapas & Wine's young European owners Gael Winandy (Belgium) and Grégoire Stevenard (France) have created one gem of a place that harkens back to traditional tapas bars you'd find in Spain. If you are looking to eat your way around the world, look no further than Winnipeg's West End, where restaurants representing countless countries line each block. A few standouts include Pho Hoang, Magic Thailand, Café Dario (Latin American), Sargent Taco Shop, Kimbaek (Korean), Jeepney (Filipino), and Feast Café (Indigenous). Japanese cuisine is also well represented in the city. Yujiro is arguably the city's best and excels with ramen at lunch and a mix of izakaya and sushi dishes at dinner. For authentic yōshoku-style food and ramen, look no further than Dwarf no Cachette, where owners Yasuko and Takekuni Akimoto (who moved here from Tokyo) have made the most kawaii dining experience possible. At Izakaya Edokko chefs Masa Sugita and Alan Yin serve plates that will bring your taste buds to Tokyo, while Cho Ichi Ramen offers numerous bowls filled with noodles that are made in house. For Cantonese cuisine, Noodle Express in Chinatown is a mainstay, as the downtown hole-in-the-wall Double Greetings Chinese Snack House. Plus, let's not forget about the south of the city down Pembina Highway, where you can join the huge weekend crowds at Sun Fortune for Hong Kong style Cantonese, and Golden Loong for hand- pulled noodles and spicy northern Chinese fare. All types of cuisine under one roof Have a group with diverse tastes who can't settle on one spot? Check out the brand new Hargrave St. Market in True North Square, where you'll find kiosks by some of the city's best chefs and restaurants, a brewery from Lake of the Woods Brew Co., and a craft cocktail bar. Or, head to The Forks Market, where the food kiosks are run by some of the city's best food trucks and restauranteurs, all serviced by an indoor and outdoor bar, The Common, with 20 wines and 20 beers on tap. Breweries With 16 breweries and two distilleries, there is so much in Winnipeg to pour over, including hop-forward APAs and IPAs, sours, wheat beers, artisanal vodkas, and gins, many of which utilize the surrounding wheat, hops, botanicals, and berries that grow right here in Manitoba.
