Winnipeg receives more sun than almost anywhere
else in Canada, providing plenty of daylight hours in
the summer to discover all that our parks, rivers, and
outdoor attractions have on offer – not to mention
dancing late into the night during all our festivals!
Summer in the city kicks off with one of the world's
largest Indigenous festivals, which is open to everyone.
During the Manito Ahbee Festival (May 13-17) you
can witness a vast celebration of Indigenous arts,
culture and music, with events including one of North
America's largest pow wows (held over the course of
three days at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg), the
Indigenous Marketplace and Trade Show (where you
can purchase art, textiles and all manner of goods right
from the makers), and the Lighting of the Sacred Fire at
the Oodena Circle at The Forks.
Other festivals include the TD Winnipeg International
Jazz Festival (June) and the Winnipeg Fringe Theatre
Festival (Jul. 15-26,) – both of which turn the Exchange
District into one big block party featuring numerous
free shows; Folklorama (August 2-15,) – the world's
largest and longest running multicultural festival where
one can go globetrotting via cuisine, culture, music and
dance with host cultures across the city every night; and
the Winnipeg Folk Festival (July 9-12), where massive
headliners and some of the finest bands you've yet
to discover play for thousands of people at stages
throughout Birds Hill Park.
