The Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) is Canada's oldest civic art gallery, a national treasure that is home to the world's largest public collection of contemporary Inuit Art along with a remarkable catalogue of Canadian, Indigenous, European and contemporary works. On top of this, it's also one of Winnipeg's best venues. Within its stunning façade you'll encounter inviting event spaces that includes a rooftop sculpture garden that will take your event to new heights. And this is just the beginning Come fall 2020 the WAG will open North America's newest cultural institution, the $65-million Inuit Art Centre. The building itself will evoke the stark beauty of the Arctic landscape, with numerous unique spaces for meetings, parties and gatherings. It will also elevate the art on display from viewed objects to shared stories, providing a full sensory experience with art you can touch, people you can talk to, and technology you can play with. Hear directly from artists and Elders about the North and its people. Sculpt side-by-side with a master carver. Curate your own exhibition from your phone and experience the North through virtual reality and other technology – all while attending an event. See your guests mingle amongst the WAG's collection of 13,000 works of contemporary Inuit Art, including thousands of carvings that will be housed within a three-storey working glass vault that will continually be altered and updated by the curators, conservators and researchers working within. New culinary partner Also new for 2020 is the WAG's catering partnership with Sparrow Hotels. With a roster of restaurants that includes SMITH at INN at the Forks, ERA Bistro at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and Pauline and The Wood Tavern at the Norwood Hotel, Sparrow's culinary team has a delectable track record. Come spring 2020 you'll find their latest café in the WAG adjacent to the rooftop sculpture garden, while catering services will be available throughout all of its event spaces.
