Meet the Planner Suzanne Burnie // Canadian Credit Union Association What surprized you most about Winnipeg? Winnipeg offered our association the ability to be the central hub for all provinces to meet. Our delegates travel across Canada and Winnipeg's location made it ideal for visitors from coast to coast to come together. Did you find any hidden gems? We kicked off our program with a reception at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Delegates loved the guided tours and the experience of seeing the museum's many levels of exhibits. The local caterer enhanced the event with Canadian flavours that our delegates thoroughly enjoyed. How did Tourism Winnipeg services help your conference? The Canadian Credit Union Association (CCUA) is the national trade association representing Canada's Credit Unions from coast to coast. The association truly appreciates the ability to go to one source for assistance with bids, RFPs, site selections, supplier services, entertainment options and offsite venues that are unique to Winnipeg. We felt that Tourism Winnipeg was an extension of our events team. Why did you choose Winnipeg? Our National Conference for Canada's Credit Unions is the largest Canadian Conference and Tradeshow for Credit Union Members, attracting leadership teams and their board of directors. We selected Winnipeg as the RBC Convention Centre because it is superbly structured for large scale events. We enjoyed 80,000 sq. ft. of space to host our complex and multi-faceted event program. What advice would you give to planners looking to book in Winnipeg? Step 1 Take a look at www.meetingswinnipeg.com you will be surprised at all the selection you have in the city. Step 2 Call Tourism Winnipeg let them know of all your logistics and event details. Step 3 Visit the city to see if for yourself – a site visit will allow you to see all the options you have. Favourite Winnipeg attraction? There are so many to select from, but we will mention that the Tourism Winnipeg team helped us find a unique spot to host a mid-conference after party. We selected 441 Main. Great party! Guests are still talking about the night. Favourite Winnipeg restaurant? Now that I have been to Winnipeg a few times I will name a few yummy spots: Amsterdam Tea Room, Forth Café, SMITH, Merchant Kitchen and Cibo Waterfront Café.
