All the City's a Stage! Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada is brimming with a thriving arts scene, exceptional performance groups, cultural landmarks, museums and galleries, making this centrally located city a living classroom you can't find anywhere else. DAY 1 A morning spent with members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO) will surely be music to your student's ears. The WSO has made a name for itself through a diverse range of programming, as each year they play over 80 concerts covering genres as diverse as pop, masterworks, and experimental. Their Student Matinee program pulls back the curtain and offers students insight on what it takes to become a professional musician. Students will attend a dress rehearsal matinee, be invited to a Q & A with the conductor, and a pre-performance chat with the musicians so they can learn about the work before it is performed. In the evening, head to a Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball game and catch the two-time defending American Association Baseball Champions play host to teams like the Duluth Superiors, Rochester Aces and St. Paul Saints. The Goldeyes offer groups the chance to perform the national anthem(s) right on the field, while bands and choirs can also play for crowds at the main gate pre-game before the first pitch is thrown. DAY 2 Make it a morning of music at the University of Manitoba (U of M) whose Desautels Faculty of Music features an exceptional array of talent, with faculty members being top brass in Winnipeg's jazz, chamber, opera, classical and choral groups. U of M's music clinics provide students with the opportunity to work with these luminaries through workshops and seminars, while also providing insights into the academic workings of the music world.
