Peasant Cookery For years now, Peasant Cookery has been Winnipeg's standard-bearer when it comes to classic French techniques applied to Manitoba's products. Chef Melissa Makarenko's charcuterie in particular, utilizing primarily locally raised heritage breeds of pork, beef and fowl, has won no shortage of acclaim. At Peasant Cookery Manitoban-grown vegetables appear throughout the year courtesy of a program of pickling and preserving, hearty mains showcase local meats and fish, while the Wednesday night's buck-a-shuck oyster nights are always popular. Its adjacent cocktail bar is also a favourite in the Historic Exchange District for the professional after-work-crowd, and the hip set at night. The ambiance is much like a Parisian bistro — but one with room to spare for larger groups. Peasant Cookery can accommodate tables of up to 30 people and can provide set menu options. There is also the option to rent the entire space, which seats a total of 80. While bus parking is not available, they do have an area located right in the front of the restaurant for easy drop off and pick up.
