Winnipeg is so hot right now. This past year Lonely Planet named Manitoba as one of its top ten regions to visit, celebrating Winnipeg specifically for its "big- city sophistication" and "multicultural flavour," while 2019 ended with the Globe and Mail singling us out as one of 10 places to see in the world for 2020 ("Where to go in 2020: A Globe traveller's guide") in fine company with destinations like Ireland and Morocco. So, what's all the fuss about? First of all, the Province of Manitoba is turning 150 and to mark the occasion we'll be hosting big events all year long at places like The Forks and the Manitoba Legislative Building. It is also the 350th anniversary of the Hudson Bay Company (HBC), the iconic fur trading company whose artifacts can be found throughout the Manitoba Museum. On top of this, Winnipeg has always been a first-class destination for student groups, with a thriving arts scene, cultural landmarks and numerous museums that can be combined to create a one-of-a-kind curriculum. Plus, from August 14–18, 2020, the city will host the Student Youth Travel Association Annual Conference. I hope to see you there! This planner is brimming with itinerary ideas, group activities, performance venues, supplier profiles and maps, with this year's edition placing a special emphasis on student youth options. It's a collaborative effort on the part of hoteliers, attractions, restaurants, transportation, events and receptive operators — all of whom will work with you to create an exceptional and customized experience in our city. On behalf of Tourism Winnipeg, the city's official destination marketing and tourism organization let me be your guide and help plan your next tour to Winnipeg.
