12 • Winnipeg's unique off-site venues
Nothing permeates the "joie de vivre" of St. Boniface, the heart of Winnipeg's
french culture, quite like the towering log-lined walls of Fort Gibraltar – a re-creation
of the original North West Company fort from back in 1810, complete with staff clad
in lively period costumes.
The Great Hall inside the picturesque log cabin, la Maison du Bourgeois, is a
handsome setting with hardwood floors, a rugged stone fireplace, and strings of
filament bulbs that create a romantic glow at night.
Upstairs is the Partner's Room, a more intimate setting in an A-frame space where
light pours in through dormer windows.
Or stroll to the Maison Chaboillez, a quaint log cabin that is a reproduction of
a late 18th century French Canadian home that provides a rustic setting for an
intimate sit-down dinner or reception.
Ensure a truly unique experience and let your delegates get their hands dirty
by playing some voyageur games, like hatchet-throwing, musical spoons, and a
bannock roast right on the grounds of the fort.
