20 • Winnipeg's unique off-site venues As western Canada's largest public art museum, the Winnipeg Art Gallery houses nearly 30,000 works of historical and contemporary Indigenous and Canadian art in Gustavo da Roza's iconic 1971 building in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. The WAG is an inspiring venue for conferences, receptions, live performances, and weddings, and their creative approach will ensure your next event stands out. The in-house catering partner, Sparrow Hotels (whose restaurants include SMITH at Inn at The Forks, ERA at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, and Pauline and The Wood Tavern in the Norwood Hotel) can further elevate your guests' experience. Spacious Eckhardt Hall is awash in Manitoba Tyndall stone and can accommodate a standing reception or sit-down meal in style. The Skylight Gallery illuminates intimate events with stunning art on view. The seasonal Rooftop Sculpture Garden boasts incredible views in the city, where attendees can take in fresh air and entertainment, easily moving outdoors from the adjacent Penthouse Foyer. Ideal for meetings, screenings, lectures, and live concert or theatrical performances, the Muriel Richardson Auditorium features state-of-the-art acoustics and lighting. The adjoining lobby holds 125 for post-event receptions and intermissions immersed in captivating artwork. Other versatile and private meeting spaces include the Lecture Room and Board Room. Today, the WAG holds the world's largest collection of contemporary Inuit art, which will be highlighted in the WAG Inuit Art Centre, set to open in late 2020. This 40,000 sq. ft. addition faces south toward the Manitoba Legislature. The Centre will include galleries, an Interactive Theatre, Knowledge and Sharing Centre, and a three-storey glass vault showcasing Inuit sculpture.
