Take a guided agriculture tour of a progressive farm and high-tech computerized flour mill, then embark on a fascinating visit to a modern Hutterite Colony on this full eight- hour day tour. At 8:30 a.m. depart the hotel for the nearby town of Elie, MB, home of the Abtshof Farm. Abtshof, operated by Andreas Boersch, is a 3200-acre grain farm which produces wheat, canola, rye, oats and some corn. A guided tour will highlight the farms' facilities and equipment, including the state-of-the-art multimillion-dollar Prairie Flour Mill, which Andreas and his investors designed and built. This mill supplies wheat to numerous Winnipeg restaurants, including the organic flour used by Red Ember Common, one of the city's best pizza places. After, you'll travel west to the village of Newton Siding to visit the Sunnyside Hutterite Colony. After a traditional meal in their main dining hall, you will be taken on a tour of this very impressive communal Colony, whose 60+ residents farm 6400 acres. Sunnyside grows canola, barley, wheat, flax, beans and peas, while they also raise pigs, cattle and chickens. After the tour you'll head back to the city. An agricultural specialist tour guide will be with your group the whole day. heartlandtravel.ca - 1.866.890.3377
