Source: 1 Statistics Canada 2018 Transportation and distribution The Winnipeg CMA Transportation and Distribution (TD) sector had 41,500 employees working at 6,849 business establishments in 2018 1 . Air, truck and rail are Manitoba's key transportation modes, representing 32 per cent of the TD sector's GDP. Between 2012 and 2017, their compound annual growth rates (CAGR) were six per cent, two per cent and six per cent, respectively. Subsector focus Trucking, e-commerce (from a logistics/ warehousing perspective) Target markets/audiences Businesses, site selectors and CEOs in the TD sector. Primary Canada Secondary United States Industry collaboration YES! Winnipeg (YW) will continue to be an active supporter and collaborator with key industry partners such as: Economic Development & Training (ED&T) Continue building relationships, share and collaborate on projects with the ED&T offices. Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) Continue to foster relationships, share and collaborate with the MTA. Global Affairs Canada/Trade Commissioner Service and Invest in Canada Identify leads in TD sector businesses considering locating to Canada and then presenting the Winnipeg option to these companies in a timely fashion. Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) Continue to build relationships and collaborate with WAA. Opportunity to understand land availability issues. Centreport Maintain relationships and collaboration. Opportunity to share data and understand land availability issues. City of Winnipeg Continue to foster relationships, share, and collaborate with City of Winnipeg. Collaborate effectively on projects with a two-way information sharing program. World Trade Centre Winnipeg (WTCW) Continue to foster relationships, share and collaborate with WTCW. Leverage their services for Business InfoCentre, as well as francophone business development opportunities. Business development activities YW's business development activities include prospecting, in-person meetings, follow-up calls, relationship building, presentations, proposals and pitches, tracking, customized site inspections and servicing. Business retention and expansion Fifty-two local companies have been identified for business retention and expansion (BRE) interviews and intelligence gathering, for actionable insights and services offered. For 2020, seven BRE interviews are slated to take place. Sector activities » Travel to conferences/meetings where C-suite decision makers are in attendance. Identified conferences will be related to subsectors of focus. » Strengthen collaboration with WAA and CentrePort, as well as the Manitoba Trucking Association. » Build materials that highlight/explain our key advantages in TD for companies in e-commerce Sales initiatives 3PL and Supply Chain Summit ........................................
