The tourism industry in Winnipeg employs more than 48,000 people and results in an economic impact of $2.3 billion in GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Our Tourism Winnipeg (TW) team is the city's official destination marketing organization and leads all efforts to attract visitors, group tours, special events, sports, metings and conventions to Winnipeg. TW showcases the city's star attractions, festivals, events, arts, culture, restaurants and services to provide residents and visitors the best possible experience. Sales initiatives TW led the management of the marketing consortiums of Team Winnipeg and Winnipeg Tour Connection. These consortiums bring together more than 60 stakeholders to maximize resources, provide a cohesive sales effort and promote Winnipeg with greater impact. Our team organized more than 30 initiatives and hosted more than 100 clients representing over 50 accounts on site visits of the city throughout the year. Sales initiatives ranged from sponsored events, sales missions, client events, group familiarization (FAMs) tours as well as site visits. These activities generated qualified leads for stakeholders to drive future businesses. The majority of sales activities took place in Ottawa and Toronto, as they are the major source of national associations, as well as at national marketplaces that brings clients to meet with suppliers for B2B engagements. Vertical economic strategy Our TW team developed a vertical sales and marketing strategy to target meetings and conventions that aligned with the city's economic sector strengths in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, agribusiness, creative industries, energy and environment, financial services, information, communications and technology, life sciences and transportation. Leveraging these strengths provided a more compelling value proposition to support the efforts of attracting national and international events to the city. highlights Tourism Winnipeg Tourism is a key economic driver for Winnipeg, predicted to attract approximately 4.4 million visitors annually and resulting in an estimated $1.2 billion in total expenditures for 2019.
