Market Intelligence highlights EDW's Market Intelligence team is responsible for accessing, analyzing and applying a robust set of data and content on Winnipeg's economy. This information is used to successfully compete to earn new investment, talent, jobs, and visitation for Winnipeg. Access to market intelligence data and content forms the most reliable and impactful market intelligence to support our business development and sales efforts and guide the city's economic development decision making. Our Market Intelligence team develops strategies, tools and tactics designed to lead the information needs of EDW's business development and sales teams. Partnership collaboration We work with our partners to become better informed of Winnipeg's strategic industry sectors and national and regional initiatives that may impact opportunities for sector growth. Invest in Canada (data working group) Early in 2019, Invest in Canada initiated a working group that included the directors responsible for data collection and management from economic development agencies across the country including Winnipeg. This group met quarterly to collaborate on future projects and to work on the creation of a central data repository or data lake dedicated to the collection of comparative statistics and analysis across census metropolitan areas. Work continues to expand and in 2020 distribution of this resource will extend to provincial economic development departments as well. Site selector table development project A working group was created in May 2019 to review and improve the existing information and data available to site selectors researching Winnipeg on our website. A new website section was launched in September, providing data that site selectors need. This data incluedes local and regional market characteristics, labour and transportation costs, natural resources availability, infrastructure, policy structure, business support and promotion information. The tables are based on industry standards provided by the International Economic Developers Council (IEDC). A key deliverable of this effort was the provision of an updatable toolkit that would help guide our data collection, analysis and delivery of information focused on the Winnipeg region and its community investment readiness. Talent attraction MI worked on a Manitoba labour study to determine the supply and demand for skills and talent within the province. This skills gap analysis supports the efforts of our talent attraction team as they develop advice and resources for companies trying to attract and keep talent. We have created a robust, forward-looking and dynamic labour market tool. It recognizes the unique regional needs of our employers and changing nature of our work in the future. 36 2019 Annual Report
