Pride Winnipeg Festival: Ted Grant / ChrisD.ca lgbt itinerary ◗ Half Day ●Day 1 Start your day by tucking into the retro homey space of Baked Expectations. The checkered floor and red vinyl booths channel a vintage vibe while the juicy burgers and pastry case full of stacked tortes, pies, cakes and other goodies will leave you full and satisfied. If modern is more your thing, head over to Tea Story for the cool and quirky combo of teas, bubble teas and hot-off-the-grill waffles with toppings like hummus, avocado, pepperoni or pulled pork. Jump into the day at Danny's All-Day Breakfast located at The Forks Market. Eggs Benny, silver dollar pancakes and your morning favourites are on offer. After you've had your fill, head upstairs for some shopping. Teecka's Aboriginal Boutique stocks handcrafted creations from the area's indigenous population while Distant Caravans offers up silk scarves, flowy frocks and a fortune teller or two. Once you've had your fill, wander into Osborne Village for some of the city's best boutique shopping. The boho chic area is renowned for its fashion stops like The Closet on River for pre-loved threads, Rooster for killer boots and heels and Silver Lotus for pretty accessories. The area is also renowned for its specialty shops like Hungover Empire for punk, goth and rockabilly culture, The Happy Cooker for kitchen gadgets galore and Music Trader for indie music and vinyls. Next head to Corydon, also known as Little Italy, for more of the city's best shops. Galleries and home décor stores line the bustling street including Bear Creek Gallery, Radiance, Room for Style and the Stoneware Gallery. Green Scene is the spot to stop for gardening aficionados. Corydon is known for its people watching, so sit yourself down on the patio at Colosseo and dig into a hearty plate of pasta. If bistro fare is more to your taste head to The Frenchway for gourmet sandwiches and macaroons made in lemon, caramel and raspberry. Wherever you go, finish off with a creamy gelato in hazelnut or lemon from Nucci's Gelati. 38 Winnipeg Outside, the Skateboard Plaza is always in full swing with tricks and moves that defy gravity. If a slower pace is more your thing, head to the riverwalk for a peaceful stroll. As you make your way around the grounds, cast your gaze out on the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Slated for completion in 2014, this architectural marvel is worth a moment of contemplation. For lunch, head to The Exchange District where you've got endless options. Try vegan fare at Mondragon Bookstore and Coffeehouse—the southern-fried tofu burger is not to be missed—or head to the nearby Paterson GlobalFoods Institute to Jane's for elegant fare from the talented and creative students of Red River College's culinary program. While there, sign up for a mixology class or lessons in truffle making. Do some gallery hopping in the Exchange District at Mayberry Fine Art, cre8ery, Platform Gallery and Warehouse Gallery. Then dress yourself in designer and vintage threads with the wares of Moi Boutique, The Haberdashery, Foxy Shoppe and Hoopers Bazaar. In summer, Winnipeg's Pride Festival bursts with colour and activity. From May 24-June 2, the city is hopping with the spirit and celebration of this diverse community. Events include a parade, concerts, dance party and rally at the Manitoba Legislature. 2013 Spring/Summer Events & Itineraries Guide
