Yoga Public: Duality Photographic Health and Wellness itinerary ◗ Half Day ●Day 1 Greet the day with a little sunshine at the Underground Café located in the Exchange District. This quaint and cozy spot is the place for the city's best veggie burger—The Sun Burger. The thick and "meaty" patty is made of toasted sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, mozza, cheddar, rice, eggs and spices. Baked to crispy perfection, it's served on a toasted bagel and smothered with a tangy lime dill sauce. Get out of bed full of vigour and head to The Forks for an energizing concoction from the Smoothie Bar. Pair it with a whole wheat cinnamon bun made from Manitoba ingredients from Tall Grass Prairie Bakery. Continue your culinary tour of the province by stopping in at Grass Roots Prairie Kitchen for freshly pressed sunflower oil, choke cherries and Saskatoon berry jam. Once you've had your fill of virtuous dining, head out into the area's warehouse-lined streets and make your way to Five Two Boutique, where a sleek gallery-style space is home to sustainable clothing and footwear for men, women and children, décor items and upcycled accessories. Take your treats to go and head down to the Riverwalk for a stroll. The lazy river and rustling leaves above are the perfect setting for reflection and contemplation. If you want to pick up the pace a little, rent a tandem bike and explore the area's abundant nature trails. Next, embrace your inner anarchist at Mondragon Bookstore and Coffeehouse for vegan fare, fair-trade coffee, a bookstore stacked with political reads and organic grocery store Sacco + Vanzetti. Then take a moment to sit crossed-legged at the peaceful zen gardens in nearby Chinatown where tranquility washes over you. Now that your tummy is rumbling it's time for lunch at The Current, located inside the Inn at the Forks. Local ingredients are always featured on the menu in scrumptious dishes like crisp, fried northern Manitoba pickerel cheeks with lemon caper remoulade or Natures Farm™ pasta simmered in a slow-roasted plum tomato and basil sauce with crimini mushrooms and roasted garlic. The central neighbourhood of Wolseley is home to the city's crunchy set and is the perfect place to track down your inner guru. Pick up books on yoga and tai chi at Prairie Sky Books and handmade cosmetics at Heartsease, housed in a cute character home painted pink and red. Then get refreshed at Organic Plant Worker Co-op with a freshly squeezed organic orange juice. Work up an appetite with a walk along Wellington Crescent where elm-lined streets, stately character homes and the city's dog-walking crowd keep you company. For dinner, hop over to Academy Road and Saucer's Café for healthy and filling gourmet sandwiches, like roast turkey with cranberry citrus chutney and slow-roasted bison with chimichurri. It's time to get those chakras flowing at Yoga Public, located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg. This sleek white and wooden space offers more than a hundred classes a week from intense hot yoga to relaxing yin. Try something totally different with a yoga wall alignment class or really work up a sweat with a high-energy TRX cardio boot camp class. It's now time to treat those tired muscles to some R'n'R at Riverstone Spa. Outfitted with river rocks and trickling waterfalls, it's the perfect place to unwind. Sign up for an indigenous hot stone massage, which incorporates aboriginal practices into the treatment. Cap off the day at one of two Boon Burger locations. As Canada's first all-vegan burger joint, it was featured on the Food Network Canada's You Gotta Eat Here and offers up clever burgers like the Thanksgiving burger with cranberry sauce and stuffing, and the Buddha burger served with mango chutney. The baked sesame fries are not to be missed. 36 Winnipeg 2013 Spring/Summer Events & Itineraries Guide
