Choose a classic breakfast like French toast or open-face omelette loaded with artisan cheeses, or fill up with a bowl of breakfast ramen. From there, head on foot to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Canada's oldest public gallery. The WAG celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2012/2013 with a full slate of special events, exhibitions and parties. Inside this grand, stone building on the corner of Memorial Boulevard, you'll also find the country's largest collection of Inuit sculpture, some of which is always on display. an; Parlour Coffee: Matthew e Theatre Festival: Leif Norm Brian Gould; Winnipeg Fring Historic Site, this area is one of the city's original neighbourhoods and home to Winnipeg's first "high-rise" buildings. Cobblestone streets and original, late-19th century buildings make this historic 'hood a must see. The area has been a popular stand in, playing New York, Chicago and other major U.S. cities in many Hollywood movies. Today, boutiques, second-hand stores, cafés, coffee shops and restaurants draw crowds. Old Market Square (on the corner of King Street and Bannatyne Avenue) is home base for Winnipeg's annual Fringe Festival, which runs every July. The area has become an art, design and decor mecca. Pick out a circa-1960s Danish hutch, groovy arborite kitchen table or modern minimalist steel dining table at one of several furniture and decor shops in the area, including Hooper's, Rhymes with Orange and Hut K. With a growling stomach, head to Deer + Almond, one of Winnipeg's newest eateries. Look up as you enter to spot the grass growing from the ceiling inside this new hot spot that serves simple fare with flair. Sawatzky After lunch, walk a few blocks to Parlour Coffee, a sleek and popular coffee bar on Main Street at Bannatyne Avenue. Stay and sip or drink on the go. Dash across Main Street and head one block north to The Manitoba Museum, where you'll find a natural history gallery with a life-sized replica of a 17th century ship and a full-scale, circa-1920s Winnipeg street scene. Next door, catch a star inside the Planetarium, which houses the most advanced projection system in Canada. A new, seamless image projection system blasts visitors across the galaxy beyond the stars. For dinner, head to South American steakhouse Hermanos Restaurant & Wine Bar for its signature grilled picanha steak with a side of chimichurri and farofa seasoning. For a more casual mood, head down the street to Corrientes, a Buenos Aires-style pizzeria, or pop into Boon Burger, Canada's first all-vegan burger joint.
