Manitoba Historical Society Dalnavert Museum: Rob Barrow Manitoba Historical Society Dalnavert Museum wA Take a trip into Winnipeg's past as you tour the 1895 home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald – former Manitoba premier and son of Canada's first prime minister. At this National and Provincial Historic Site, museum interpreters bring history to life through stories and artifacts that represent the lifestyle of a prominent family's household in the early days of Winnipeg. Decorated with luxurious furnishings and equipped with late Victorian innovations, Dalnavert provides a unique historical experience that fascinates children and adults alike. Dalnavert also features summer programs, like Treasure Hunt! and My Secret Garden. Dalnavert's Visitors' Centre also houses an impressive gift shop, featuring many items from local artisans. Free parking is available for visitors. Final daily tours will commence 40 minutes prior to closing. Open Wed-Sun. The museum hosts an interpretive exhibit as well as rooms set to reflect the life of the Ross family when their home served as the post office. Ross House Museum provides a glimpse into the operation of the early postal service in Western Canada, as well as 1850s homestead life, Métis history, and the lives of the Ross family. From the Nonsuch, a replica of a full-size 17th century ship that sailed the world; to the Urban Gallery, a trip back through time to the roaring '20s, to the dramatic Orientation Gallery with its recreation of an early bison hunt, a trip to the museum is a journey through Manitoba's past, present, and future. DIGITAL DOME PLANETARIUM The Manitoba Museum is the first planetarium in the world to feature a Digitar 5 all-dome projection system. Visitors are able to navigate through the galaxy, as well as get inside a living cell, or roam with dinosaurs. The planetarium also offers "Manitoba Skies," the ultimate stargazer guide to the night skies in the province.
