The Forks: Marion Ridsdale Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre w The Bruce D. Campbell Farm and Food Discovery Centre is a fun place to explore how your food gets from the farm to your plate and interactive exhibits show the science and technology involved. Hands-on highlights include: four windows into the pig barn, tractor cab, computer games, weather station, biosecurity shower, vet ultrasound, store scanner, exercise bike to burn calories and chemistry of food. The centre includes parking, bus drop off, picnic area, guided tours (please book ahead) and outside lots with Manitoba crops. A multipurpose room supports hands-on activities, presentations and meetings. It is a showcase for gardening and landscaping, and the wheelchair accessible walking path offers a wonderful recreational opportunity for people of all ages and physical capabilities. The "Quote Walls" are a unique component of this labyrinth. The different textured granite tiles display a myriad of quotes from Carol Shields' works. Anyone entering the labyrinth passes through Carol's words, escaping from daily life as they enter a world of story, myth and imagination. The Circle of Life Thunderbird House w The Circle of Life Thunderbird House is the home for aboriginal spirituality and culture. It is a focal point and mecca for aboriginal people coming from rural communities to an urban environment. Please call 311 to reserve a tour. 510 Main Street – Exchange District www.winnipeg.ca Esplanade Riel Pedestrian Bridge w This five-metre wide and 250-metre long "people path," is located north of the junction of the historic Red and Assiniboine Rivers, and provides a link between The Forks and Winnipeg's French Quarter. The structure, cablestayed from a single, transversely inclined pylon rising 57 metres above the Red River, reflects the lightweight nature of its pedestrian traffic, while the spire signifies a place of meeting in the middle of the Red River. A historical diorama can be viewed from the bridge. The bridge was named in honour of Louis Riel. Water Avenue | Provencher Boulevard – The Forks | Old St. Boniface | Winnipeg's French Quarter Exchange District National Historic Site w Established in the early 20th century, the Exchange District National Historic Site is the original centre of commerce and culture in Winnipeg. The district has been preserved and nurtured as one of North America's most colourful and cosmopolitan neighbourhoods. This nine-acre (3.6 hectare) park, which encompasses open green spaces and treelined walkways, is a national treasure owned and operated by Parks Canada. Enlightening interpretive displays, inspiring sculptures, stone pictographs and ceremonial bronze gambling sticks embody the site's rich continuum of historical events that span more than 6,000 years. The Variety Heritage Adventure Park brings The Forks' history to life for children age two to 12.
