Upper Fort Garry was the home of a massive mercantile empire of the Hudson's Bay Company and the social centre for the fledgling Red River colony. This three-and-a-half acre heritage park includes the Governor's Gate, the only remaining piece of the original fort; the 385-foot Heritage Wall depicting 340 years of history; and an interpretive centre. Phase one of the park's green space is set to open in fall 2013. www.upperfortgarry.com Courtesy Winnipeg Conventnion Centre Courtesy Courtesy Nordik Spa-Nature ASSINIBOINE PARK Assiniboine Park has been one of the city's most popular gathering places for more than 100 years.
