The field includes previous qualifiers Kevin Martin, Glenn Howard, Jennifer Jones, Heather Nedohin and the Winnipeg team led by Jeff Stoughton. www.curlmanitoba.org/2013trials UNION STATION Set to complete in spring 2014, VIA Rail is spending $6.5 million in renovations to Winnipeg's Union Station. Upgrades include renovating the entire rotunda and washrooms, adding a new cafe/deli kiosk and opening up the passenger wait area. This is part of VIA's plan to make the station a pedestrian gateway to The Forks. Union Station was designed by the same architects responsible for Grand Central Station in New York City. www.viarail.ca/en/explore-our-destinations/stations/prairies-and-northern-manitoba/winnipeg INUIT ART AND LEARNING CENTRE The award-winning American architect Michael Maltzan has been selected to design the Inuit Art and Learning Centre at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. The Centre will be located adjacent to the existing WAG building, and a groundbreaking for construction is anticipated in 2014. www.wag.ca PATERSON GLOBALFOODS INSTITUTE Located inside the grandeur of the oldest skyscraper in Winnipeg, the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute is Red River College's new state-of-the-art campus in the Exchange District; it houses the hospitality and culinary arts programs, along with student residences. Hands-on cooking, baking and mixology workshops are available to the public, along with Jane's restaurant, where students will cook, serve and host lunch and dinner. www.rrc.ca/lightinguphistory/paterson.html NEW HOTELS Winnipeg's accommodation options continue to grow. Ten new hotels are slated for construction over the next two years for a total of 9,000 rooms available in early 2016.
