Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site Take time to stroll through the centuries of history at Lower Fort Garry. It's circa 1830s setting remains open throughout the year with self-guided tours, a must-see for anyone looking to soak up the past amongst the limestone walls where Treaty No. 1 was signed. Parks Canada has developed new brochures highlighting the stories behind each building within the Fort's famed façade. It's a great way to discover this significant trading post that is steeped in Canadian history. Within its massive gate you'll encounter buildings like the yurt-shaped Southwest Bastion, the famed Big House with its wraparound porch, the Fur Loft and Men's House - all of which are part of the finest collection of early stone buildings in Western Canada.
