CULINARY ADVENTURE
We relish our local restaurants offering
new and notable culinary experiences
reflective of Winnipeg's rich past and
diverse community.
If you are looking for star treatment from the kitchen, and by that we
mean stars in the kitchen, look no further than deer + almond and Feast
Café Bistro, whose respective chef/owners are currently on Food Network
Canada's Wall of Chefs.
Deer + almond is helmed by Mandel Hitzer along with sous chef Emily
Butcher, who took bronze at the last Canadian Culinary Championships.
Hitzer is also known for RAW:almond, a winter pop-up that brings in
some of the world's best chefs to cook multicourse dinners on the frozen
Assiniboine River in a gorgeous structure by architect Joe Kalturnyk.
Feast Cafe Bistro's Christa Guenther, a member of the Peguis First
Nation, is an advocate for Indigenous cuisine and has been profiled in
nearly every Canadian publication you can name. Her restaurant in the
West End is the go-to spot for modern versions of First Nations cuisine.
Looking for more acclaim, look no further than chef Scott Bagshaw's
three small rooms that specialize in small plates with robust flavours.
Enoteca is the city's current representative on the Canada's 100 Best
Restaurants list, Máquè excels at Asian-inspired plates and Passero is a
marquee destination for Italian in The Forks Market. Italian fans will also
relish the rustic dishes at St. Vital's Harth, where all the pastas are made
in house and much of the larger fare comes out of a forno oven.
