If you have the urge to travel somewhere out of this world, the Planetarium's impressive virtual reality experience creates a new sense of depth to the known universe. Fly to familiar constellations and explore the beautiful night sky; then learn about expeditions to outer space, the greatest journey humanity has ever undertaken. Full-dome shows and special features for families with young children means there is something for everyone. Begin your museum journey in the refreshed Welcome Gallery, where the iconic life-sized bison hunt diorama greets visitors. Your eyes will widen while learning about Manitoba's rich history from millions of years ago, when mosasaurs hunted in Lake Agassiz, to recent times. The remodeled Nonsuch Gallery brings visitors back to 17th-century Deptford, England, replete with the sounds of life in the city reverberating along the port's cobblestone street. The iconic Nonsuch is one of the finest full-size ship replicas in the world and in this gallery you'll learn about its remarkable journey sailing through 14,000 kilometres of salt water and fresh water before finding a home in the middle of downtown. Explore Manitoba's prairie region and learn about its diverse geography, plants and animals, Indigenous peoples and early settlers in the new Prairies Gallery. You'll see where the mighty bison once roamed, follow the old lines of European fur traders and discover the original settlements of Scottish colonists. The sleek Winnipeg Gallery shares the fascinating stories of the province's capital city. Discover Winnipeg's deep history of The Forks where Indigenous gatherings took place for thousands of years, through to the arrival of new Canadians with interactive video and audio displays. Spot familiar faces on the personalities wall, showcasing important people woven into Winnipeg's history from the 1870s to the present.
