3 LEGENDS + TALES • Volume 9 • 2021 NEW UPSCALE GROCER AND LUXURY FOOD HALL Hargrave Street Market and Mottola Grocery are now open at True North Square, a new $500-million development and plaza located downtown, just steps from Bell MTS Place—home of the Winnipeg Jets. Along with office space, a Sutton Place Hotel under construction and condos, True North Square is home to Mottola Grocery, a chef-driven, boutique food store. On the second floor is a luxury food hall called Hargrave Street Market—a beautifully designed space featuring eight local food and drink kiosks. MANITOBA MUSEUM GALLERY REFRESH The Manitoba Museum is renowned for its portrayal of Manitoba's rich and diverse history, Planetarium shows, and Science Gallery exhibits. The Manitoba Museum has recently renewed more than 40% of its galleries. The museum journey now begins in the refreshed Welcome Gallery, where the iconic life-sized bison hunt diorama greets visitors. Targeted to open in Q1 2021, the new Prairies Gallery features artifacts and specimens to highlight the diverse geography, plants and animals of the region, and tell the stories of Indigenous peoples and early settlers. The sleek Winnipeg Gallery reveals the deep fascinating history of the province's capital city through interactive video and audio displays. The beloved replica Nonsuch ship is situated in a 17th-century port city in the remodeled Nonsuch Gallery. Winnipeg Art Gallery (WAG) is set to open the world-class $65 million Qaumajuq Inuit art centre (pronounced Kow-ma-yourk or How-ma-yourk) opening March 2021. The building's name means, "It is bright, it is lit" in Inuktitut. The WAG has the largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art in the world with more than 13,000 pieces in its growing collection. Qaumajuq will be a new home for the collection and is the only Inuit art centre in the world. The museum is designed by U.S. architect Michael Maltzan, designed to reflect the landscape of the North.
