» Mobile Applications Mobile application is a term used to describe Internet programs that run on smart phones and other mobile devices. A mobile application may be a mobile website or instant messaging service, allowing organizations to engage customers in an interactive and relevant manner. Websites can be made compatible with mobile handsets by incorporating back buttons, links and applicable content. Tourism Winnipeg will collaborate with stakeholders to further develop a mobile application strategy that provides content to enhance visitor experiences in Winnipeg. In addition to the www. tourismwinnipeg.com mobile website, future initiatives may include texting or short message service marketing campaigns, and location-based marketing, where offers are sent to visitors as they enter a destination. Collateral Development and Management The use of descriptive and experiential text is important in motivating consumers to purchase travel products and services. Photos and videos are equally as important to depict experiences that create desire. Interactive media formats are ideal for telling the story, engaging emotions in the decision-making processes and inspiring travel. Tourism Winnipeg will review all collateral materials to assess their effectiveness and relevance in promoting Winnipeg as a competitive tourism destination. A number of these guides will be updated, digitized and re-posted on the website, while others will be redeveloped to align with marketing objectives. Tourism Winnipeg will also expand the image bank to include experiential-based photos and videos. » Publications Tourism Winnipeg will produce and disseminate relevant market collateral to enhance the perception of Winnipeg, and motivate travel to the city. Publications will also be used to leverage partner dollars and provide stakeholders opportunities to showcase their products and services. The Winnipeg Visitor's Guide positions Winnipeg as a desirable, four-season destination featuring the many attributes of the city, such as historic attractions, recreational opportunities, fine accommodations, and exhilarating arts and culture. This guide provides essential information on what to see and where to stay. It also showcases tourism experiences that will motivate travel to the city. The map of Winnipeg is a companion piece to the Winnipeg Visitor's Guide and provides information on the major street routes. It is a valuable tool for front line staff and available for distribution by stakeholders to visitors. Tourism Winnipeg produces an Events Guide twice a year to attract visitors, assist in travel planning and encourage locals to experience Winnipeg's many festivals, sports events, concerts and special activities. The guide is also available on Tourism Winnipeg's website and is updated to showcase the latest events. 34 A Master Tourism Plan for Winnipeg | 2011-2015 | 2013 UPDATE
