By the numbers This past year, we used key performance indicators to track our team's successes, impacts and outcomes. This is the first year- over-year comparison. 2019 actual 2020 target 2020 actual Services delivered 697 710 715 National/international investment opportunities pursued/developed 39 26 38 Business retention & expansion meetings executed 73 52 48 Foreign direct investment Our Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) team hit the ground running in 2020 with a strategy to better connect foreign investors to the Winnipeg value proposition. As the pandemic hit and strict restrictions made international travel difficult, we adapted. Early in the year, our team refocused its activities with very productive results. Strengthening Team Canada We held monthly touchpoints with Invest in Canada, as well as with key contacts in Global Affairs Canada. The latter included contacts in Ottawa and at the Canadian embassies in Paris, London and Berlin. The improved partnerships with these partners resulted in a better flow of FDI leads to Winnipeg. At the end of 2020, we worked with 30 FDI leads; 23 came through these two federal partners. Building local capacity in Team Manitoba An important priority for our FDI team was to better align with other Manitoba organizations that were working with foreign investors and promoting Winnipeg in international markets. We led regular meetings with key partners including Manitoba Agriculture and Resource Development, Manitoba Economic Development Office, CentrePort Canada, World Trade Centre Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Airports Authority. Collaboration agreements were signed with some of these organizations, which led to stronger results, including four FDI leads. Additionally, we developed a 15-session training program with instructors from Invest in Canada, Global Affairs Canada, as well as Conway and Wavteq, both leading firms in the field of FDI. We offered this training to the whole YW team, representatives from the provincial teams, as well as World Trade Centre Winnipeg and CentrePort Canada. Increasing Winnipeg visibility in international markets The restrictions imposed by the pandemic meant we needed to find alternative ways to bring the Winnipeg story to foreign investors. We leveraged partners in markets such as France, Spain, India and the Philippines to present our city's value proposition via webinars. 21 2020 Annual Report
