What's new Great gardens assiniboinepark.ca/leaf/vision Set to open in 2022, The Leaf is a $100-million horticultural attraction and event centre. Indoors, it features four distinct biomes encompassing 6,000 sq. metres of space, Canada's largest indoor waterfall and an enchanting butterfly garden in the building's apex. The whole building, called The Leaf, is encased in a conical all-glass panel façade with a state-of-the-art energy-efficient heating system to ensure it remains green throughout the winter. The Leaf will also feature an on-site restaurant and patio that will service events often using ingredients that are grown in the surrounding outdoor gardens. The Gardens at The Leaf opened in 2021. It is comprised of numerous thematic gardens that stretch out from The Leaf, all serviced by well-designed walking paths. The smell alone is worth the trip. An old favourite takes flight in a bold new setting royalaviationmuseum.com After breaking ground on May 1, 2020, the brand-new $35-million Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada is again set to take flight in early 2022. The museum houses numerous incredible aircraft that present great ideas (and not so great ideas) in flight, giving audiences an appreciation for the adventuring spirit of Canada's aviation legends. The new facility features nine exhibition galleries, a children's centre, a library, a workshop and of course, a viewing area where you can watch planes land and take off on the runways at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport. True North strong and fancy truenorthsquare.com True North Square is the centre piece of Winnipeg's Sports Hospitality and Entertainment District, which includes Canada Life Centre (formerly Bell MTS Place) and the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg. True North Square is comprised of four towers, with a central plaza that is home to Hargrave Street Market—a handsome food hall featuring new concepts from some of the city's best chefs and restaurant groups. The market features everything from upscale Italian to smash burgers, tacos cut right from the spit, sushi and ramen, gourmet sandwiches, a central cocktail bar and Lake of the Woods Brewing Company, which has a tap room and patio. On the ground floor you'll find Mottola Grocery, a luxury Italian market featuring a bakery, wine and espresso bar, butcher counter and countless local and international products. Northern exposure wag.ca/qaumajuq Qaumajuq is the Winnipeg Art Gallery's $65-million new Inuit art centre, housing the world's largest public collection of contemporary Inuit art with more than 13,000 pieces. Qaumajuq has become a cultural campus in downtown Winnipeg, with one-of-a-kind features like a three-storey glass vault that houses thousands of carvings from nearly every region of the Arctic. Qaumajuq in Inuktitut translates to "it is bright, it is lit" in English. The name celebrates the light that flows into the building, designed by U.S. architect Michael Maltzan that reflects the landscape of the North. Qaumajuq is considered an important bridge between the North and South to deepen the world's understanding of Canada.
