Northern adventure Day 1: Pre-Churchill Add an in-depth Arctic experience to your Churchill trip at the world's most comprehensive northern species exhibit—the Journey to Churchill at Assiniboine Park Zoo. This 10-acre site features an abundance of cold climate species like polar bears, Arctic fox, muskoxen and snowy owls. Inside the Aurora Borealis theatre, you'll see the northern lights dancing overhead around the 360-degree dome. Indigenous and Inuit cultures are showcased in interactive exhibits, connecting wildlife and people. The zoo is also home to the Leatherdale International Polar Bear Conservation Centre, where you'll learn important polar bear-focused research that is now featured in the CBC Television show, Arctic Vets, which stars the zoo's scientists and animal caregivers. The award-winning Manitoba Museum provides a thrilling voyage of excitement and discovery, including the ability to take your group on an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of its vaults. Get behind-the-scenes access to pieces from the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) Gallery's Inuit collection and discover the history of the HBC with a particular emphasis on the traditional lifestyles of Indigenous, Métis and Inuit communities in relation to the fur trade. Call on the help of Folklorama Group Tour Programs to assist you in hosting an evening event or reception for your group. Folklorama Group Tour Programs is the talent agency behind Folklorama, the world's largest and longest running multicultural festival. They can provide you with an array of entertainment— including musicians, dancers and singers—from contemporary and international performers from around the world in a variety of languages. Day 2: Pre-Churchill When the Canadian Museum for Human Rights was built, members of the research and curatorial team gathered input from Indigenous elders, community members, scholars, artists and curators to create the Indigenous content that is found in each of the museum's 11 galleries. On top of that, the Indigenous Perspectives gallery contains numerous artifacts, works of art and a 360-degree theatre that honours the stories and beliefs of Turtle Island's original peoples. In the afternoon, head over to Oak Hammock Marsh. This birder's paradise is home to 300 species—from songbirds, to fowl, to raptors—along with countless mammals and amphibians that can be spotted throughout the wetlands.
