Back in 1830, Lower Fort Garry was a vibrant and bustling place for
meetings. Nestled behind limestone walls above the scenic banks of
the Red River, it was Western Canada's biggest commerce centre for
Indigenous trappers and Hudson's Bay Company traders.
In 1851, this national historic site hosted the signing of Treaty No. 1,
the first of the country's numbered treaties. During this time, it was a
cultural and commercial hub for the region.
Today, it remains a unique and inspiring venue for meetings and
events, just 30 minutes from Winnipeg.
Lower Fort Garry offers flexible meeting and event space, along with a
range of catering options in the Visitor Reception Centre. The 135-seat
theatre is ideal for audio and video presentations and workshops,
while the multipurpose room can host up to 130 people for roundtable
discussions or intimate, sit down dinners. You can integrate time on the
adjacent patio, under the covered picnic area, or the scenic river view
grounds into your itinerary.
Parks Canada works with organizers and event planners to customize
workshops, demonstrations, and tours on a variety of historical and
relevant themes. This includes the iconic walk through history, where
delegates step out of the conference centre and onto wide meandering
paths that take them back in time for an interpretive presentation of the
historic fort.
Get a glimpse into what it was like to live and conduct business in one
of the most influential periods in Canadian history at Lower Fort Garry.
