February Festival du Voyageur is Western Canada's largest winter festival. It celebrates the city's fur trade, Francophone and Indigenous histories, including the Métis. Enjoy giant ice sculptures, costumed interpreters, dancing, maple syrup taffy, fabulous food and live music! Between the Winnipeg Jets, Manitoba Moose, and Winnipeg Ice there are plenty of pucks being dropped in the city. For a truly powerful experience, head to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights at The Forks. Within its glass cloud façade encounter galleries that climb from darkness to light via a labyrinth of alabaster walkways, while the content will both inspire and shake you to your core. March With winter winding down, now's a great time to see our world-class attractions like Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq, the new $65-million Inuit art centre. Its snowdrift like façade will mirror the outside before the snow goes, while within you'll be warmed by the world's largest public collection of Inuit art. On the performance side of things, March always brings an incredible array of sweet sounds from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, along with another spellbinding performance from Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet. January Rent skates from the Forks Market and head out on the Nestaweya Trail presented by the Winnipeg Foundation, one of the world's largest naturally frozen trails. Along the trail, you'll encounter structures that have been designed as part of an international competition that has seen creations from luminaries like Frank Gehry, Anish Kapoor and Tanya Tagaq. The Forks Market is pumping in January (think ski chalet but on the Prairies) as the Common bar features up to 20 hard-to-find wines and craft beers on tap along with amazing dining options. The acclaimed Winnipeg New Music Festival is a can't miss for classical and experimental fans. Past headliners have included Philip Glass, while this year features percussion superstar Evelyn Glennie. Kristhine Guerrero Darcy FInley Dan Harper 24 Winnipeg Business Events magazine
