Since 1847, millions of Canadians have entrusted Canada Life with their insurance and wealth management needs. The company consolidated its three brands—Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life—in 2020 to better serve its clients and continue to raise the bar on its award-winning business operations. Canada Life is a leading provider of personal insurance, investments, employee benefits and retirement planning in Canada. Headquartered in Winnipeg, Canada Life's focus is on the financial, physical and mental well-being of Canadians, according to Charles Henaire, the company's Deputy Chief Financial Officer. "That is at the heart of what we do," said Henaire, noting the company celebrates more than 12 million relationships with Canadians from coast to coast. "We really are focused on helping our fellow Canadians. It started 175 years ago." In recent decades, however, people within the company have become highly influential mentors amongst leaders within their respective communities, especially in Winnipeg. "The business community is very supportive of each other," said Henaire. "There is a very close, committed business and university structure so we're very fortunate to be able to reach out directly and make changes and improve the relationships we have. It's really that closeness that we see as such a benefit of being in Winnipeg." Though the city's business landscape is competitive, there is plenty of mutual support to assist each other in providing opportunities that benefit Winnipeggers. "It's such a relationship-based community," said Henaire. "Competition is good because it brings out the best in everyone. There's nothing wrong with good competition. I think that's why businesses do want to challenge each other because we do want to make sure there's lots of opportunities for everyone in Winnipeg to find good, meaningful careers and jobs. The more of those, the better off we all are." Canada Life is seen as a visionary in not only the quality of products and services it provides, but in committing to a supportive and inclusive work environment for employees. "Family is family," said Henaire, who has been with the organization for 27 years. "Our roots are here. We have strong ties. We have so many of our leaders that have benefitted from our university system in Manitoba. Winnipeg offers a whole lot of advantages from our perspective. It always comes down to the people. It's the bond that we have. It helps us continually grow. It just works."
