We used key performance indicators to track our team's successes, impacts and outcomes. Business Development Throughout 2021, our Business Development team was focused on getting back into the market with clients and executing on the sector strategies built in 2020. Our team had several opportunities to engage with Winnipeg's business community and investors in meaningful ways, including: Projects Our Business Development team provided multiple services and advocacy for Winnipeg companies and clients. Projects included the commissioning of an infrastructure and workforce development study with Nordicity for the film sector, working closely with the Province of Manitoba and the Interactive Digital Media industry and advocated for changes to the tax credit. We also worked with industry and various levels of government to advance zero-emissions transportation development. Business retention & expansion Our team members spent a lot of time talking to businesses, visiting their facilities and gathering insights about their growth opportunities and business challenges. The team toured facilities such as Emergent BioSolutions, Brar Natural Flour Milling Inc, LSM Metals, Cereals Canada, Price Electronics and Prairie Research Kitchen. Events In 2021, many events were still virtual, but several conferences returned to in-person attendance. This provided our team with the opportunity to network with businesses, get up to speed on emerging trends and issues and strengthen relationships. Our staff attended local events such as the Bioscience Association Manitoba Annual General Meeting, Agriculture Enlightened and the Manitoba Environmental Industries Association's Emerging Issues Conference. Additionally, we promoted and participated in the Heavy Vehicle and Equipment Technology Conference, which attracted national and international organizations to our city. Site visits One of the key steps in the process of attracting new investment to Winnipeg is hosting prospective investors in our city. As travel picked up in late 2021, we welcomed a technology consulting business and innovative life sciences technology company. For each visit, we pulled together a program that included meetings with key stakeholders from the ecosystem, including various public, academic and private- sector institutions. Hosting potential investors strengthens the Winnipeg pitch and leads to high-potential economic opportunities. 17 2021 ANNUAL REPORT
