2SLGBTQ+ GUIDE Winnipeg's diverse and tight knit 2SLGBTQ+ community has a rich history of inclusion and recognition, including being the first major North American city to elect an openly gay mayor. Same-sex marriage has been legal (and celebrated) in Manitoba since 2004, while Pride Winnipeg has been staged annually since 1987. Clubs club200.ca • instagram.com/famenightclub clubhappenings.ca For more than two decades Club 200 has provided the community with a fun, lively and unabashed atmosphere. The friendly, experienced staff are renowned, while the pub food is fantastic too. Fame is a lively and popular dance club featuring go-go dancers, DJs and a wide range of music in one area, along with a lounge to chill. The new location in the Exchange District on Market Avenue is smaller than the original, but the vibe still goes big. Club Happenings is the newest nightspot in Osborne Village. This BIPOC, Latinx and 2SLGBTQIA+ owned and operated space features Drag Fridays, Diva's Saturdays and a dance floor that doesn't quit. Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) humanrights.ca A literal beacon for human rights issues and stories from across the globe, the CMHR features permanent and touring exhibitions dedicated to 2SLGBTQ+ history and inclusivity. The Museum formed an advisory council to create a major project about the LGBT Purge in Canada, which will feature exhibitions, public and education programs and digital content exposing "the longest- running and largest-scale violation of the human rights of any workforce in Canadian history." The exhibit is set to open in 2024. Pride Winnipeg Festival pridewinnipeg.com Winnipeg's first pride parade took place on Sunday, August 2, 1987, on the heels of Manitoba's Human Rights Code being passed. The first parade featured 250 participants, while the Pride Winnipeg Festival now draws crowds of more than 50,000, having grown from a single- day event to a 10-day celebration. In 2022, Winnipeg hosted Canada Pride to much acclaim, while Pride Winnipeg 2023 runs from May 26 to June 4. Reel Pride reelpride.org For 38 years Reel Pride has been sharing LGBTTQ* films in Manitoba, showcasing nearly 1,000 films that may have never made it to local screens. Reel Pride celebrates queer media arts with feature films and never-before-seen shorts in front of live audience, with programming focused on "diversity, race, culture, religion, class, gender, ability, health and age." Originally started as an annual project by The Winnipeg Gay and Lesbian Film Society, Inc., it is the oldest LGBTTQ* film festival in Canada. Drag Brunches tallestpoppy.com Once a month The Tallest Poppy teams up with Synonym Art Consultation to serve up Drag Brunch events that pair a whole team of Queens with dishes that are equally over-the-top.
