La Crêperie Ker Briezh 110-267 Sherbrook Street • kerbreizhcrepe.ca Crêpes fans rejoice! After years of running a kiosk on the Esplanade Riel, Ker Briezh finally has its own charming café, which is conveniently located at the top of the Sherbrook strip just off Portage Avenue. The owners moved to Winnipeg from Brittany, France in 2018, and have since developed a devout following with their gluten-free, locally milled buckwheat crêpes that proudly state their local suppliers. On top of sweet and savoury crêpes, you'll also find pastries like éclairs and Paris-Brest. New dining rooms Bonnie Day 898 Westminster Avenue • bonniedayisagoodidea.ca This new neighbourhood hit located in the centre of Wolseley has the vibe down pat. The cozy room features fun local art, dark banquets, a massive Persian rug underfoot and an inviting courtyard-style patio to greet you. The cocktail menu rocks, the service is attentive and earnest and the menu is brimming with fabulous dishes like whipped feta with toasted sourdough, sourdough pizzas, and an ultra-crispy pork cutlet topped with an asparagus, fennel and apple salad. You must get the Persian olives to start and save room for dessert. Buvette 2-120 Scott Street • buvettewpg.com Osborne Village's newest brunch spot is a real family affair, with two generations of Svennes often in the kitchen. Along with egg dishes, soups, sandwiches and so much baking (gluten-free too), select evenings (Thursday-Saturday) the place goes Baltic, with Latvian-inspired dinners. d+a café at EQ3 Polo Park 1485 Portage Avenue • dandacafe.com From celebrated chef Mandel Hitzer (one of the Food Network's Wall of Chefs and co-creator of Winnipeg's RAW:almond and deer + almond) and sommelier Daniel King comes this elegant café located within local company EQ3's flagship showroom. On top of a lovely number of brunch dishes, the menu also goes global with items like a gochujang poke bowl using yellowfin tuna, house-made pastas that change with the season, and a cinco leches cake with toasted coconut to finish. The salads and coffee program are also second to none. Damecca Lounge 305 Madison Street • instagram.com/dameccawpg A welcome addition to the Polo Park area, Damecca's menu flies to places you wouldn't expect while still sticking the landing. Beef tartare with truffle oil and yuzu koshu mayo, a chicken katsu sandwich on Japanese milk bread, scallop xo spaghettini, pressed aburi sushi, and house-made mushroom pappardelle ensure there's a little something for everyone, while the patio provides a good setting to try out the craft cocktail list. James Avenue Pumphouse 109 James Avenue • jamesavenuepumphouse.com The dining room alone is worth a trip to this trendy and busy addition to the Exchange District's Waterfront area. From each table you can see the circa-1906 gears and pumps that once saved downtown from fires through floor-to-ceiling windows (it's like an aquarium for gearheads) in this designated heritage building. The global menu features items like pork banh mi, twice fried chicken with snow cheese and a sweet and spicy sauce, Detroit-style pizza and the biggest perogy you've ever encountered. Plus, plenty of gluten-free options too. There's also a street-side patio and cheeky craft cocktail menu.
