Nola 101-300 Taché Avenue • nolawpg.com Following up on her third-place finish at the Canadian Culinary Championships and deep run on Top Chef Canada, chef Emily Butcher (formerly the long-time chef de cuisine of Winnipeg's deer + almond) teamed up with Burnley Hospitality to open this hip, happening small plates joint in Saint-Boniface. Signature dishes like her scallops with turnip cake and fermented radish beurre blanc saw the restaurant land on enRoute's Canada's Best New Restaurants list. The lunch menu features a great burger, sandwiches and gloriously crispy onion rings. Parcel Pizza 221-A Stradbrook Avenue • parcelpizza.com The newest venture by the young Oddlot Collective restaurant group, which also oversees the Roost on Corydon and Oxbow Natural Wine Bar in South Osborne, Parcel has been crazy busy since opening in summer 2022. The room, designed by celebrated local firm Fireside Design, balances art deco with nods to old school red sauce joints and has some of the best booths in town. The 16-inch red-or-white-sauced pizzas are never ordinary, with a crust that is both airy and chewy. The "Not Pizza" section of the menu has some tasty numbers, including stuffed peppers, a radicchio Caesar, and corn ribs with black garlic aioli and lime crema. Petit Socco 256 Stafford Street • petitsoccowpg.ca In late summer 2022, one of Winnipeg's biggest name chefs, Adam Donnelly, took over the city's smallest kitchen and dining room. From one of 12 seats at 256 Stafford Street you can watch the former chef of Segovia—a place that always made the Canada's 100 best restaurants list— prepare a selection of six to seven small plates that change weekly, if not daily. With just two seatings per night, reservations (generally a few weeks in advance) are a must. One Sixteen 116 Sherbrook Street • onesixteenwpg.com One Sixteen isn't just a taproom for Good Neighbour Brewing Company, it's also the home of one of the city's most talented kitchens. The British gastropub-inspired taproom menu features stunners like a fried walleye burger that's painstakingly created on a house-made bun, fried chicken on blue cheese ranch with pickled peppers, and agnolotti with preserved chanterelles and xo brodo. The Two Hands dining room menu takes the experience even further with a wood-charcoal grill used to create expertly charred meats and local fish, along with the signature grilled flatbread served with whipped onion butter. Knowledgeable staff are always at the ready to provide wine and beer pairings. Zaytoon 203-99 Osborne Street • zaytoonwpg.com What a gorgeous space a trio of Jordanians have created in this former clothing store in Osborne Village. Translating to "Olive Tree," the bright white room has plenty of greenery, including real tropical plants as well as artificial vines hanging from the ceiling. The menu mixes traditional dishes like musakhan rolls, fatteh and lamb ribs with nouveau numbers like "Arabic twist tacos" and kale tabbouleh—with plenty of gluten-free and vegan dishes available. The Turkish coffee and iced drinks program is impressive as well. Scan the code to discover more of Winnipeg's best restaurants.
