Manitoba Museum manitobamuseum.ca The Manitoba Museum's Indigenous Advisory Circle features members, academics and artists from the Dakota, Denesuline and Anishinaabekwe First Nations, along with Inuit elders and members of the Métis Nation. The museum provides a storage space for sensitive and significant Indigenous artifacts, while its galleries pay homage to Indigenous history with life-sized dioramas and sacred items like pipes and pipe bags. Niizhoziibean at The Forks theforks.com/attractions/niizhoziibean The southernmost point at The Forks is now home to one of the largest collections of Indigenous-led public expressions in any historical site in Canada. It features The Wiigiwaam at the Gathering Space; medicinal plants; the huge, incredible sculpture Niimaamaa ("my mother"); and Cree, Ojibway and Michif signage explaining the history of the area. Urban Shaman Contemporary Aboriginal Art Gallery urbanshaman.org One of the foremost venues and voices for Indigenous art in Canada, Urban Shaman is an Aboriginal artist-run centre, providing a vehicle for artistic expression in all disciplines with a leadership role in the cultivation of Indigenous art. Winnipeg Aboriginal Film Festival waff.ca Settle in for feature-length films, collections of shorts and thought-provoking documentaries by leading Canadian and international Indigenous filmmakers at this three-day festival. It is the longest-standing Indigenous film festival in Western Canada (22 years and counting), along with the third largest in North America. 2023 dates TBA Winnipeg Art Gallery–Qaumajuq wag.ca WAG–Qaumajuq is constantly presenting new Indigenous- focused and curated exhibits, including the Winnipeg Indigenous Triennial, a major exhibition of Indigenous work every three years. It is also home to the world's largest collection of contemporary Inuit art, which is presented to dazzling effect in the visible vault, which showcases nearly 5000 carvings on the first floor of Qaumajuq. Qaumajuq itself bridges north and south, and within its incredible Arctic landscape-inspired architecture you'll find works from across Inuit Nunangat, the homeland of Inuit in Canada. The inaugural exhibition INUA was curated by an all-Inuit team of curators, representing all four regions of Inuit Nunangat.
