WELCOME TO WINNIPEG Winnipeg's roster of world-class attractions continues to grow, much like our international accolades. Brand new is The Leaf—a horticultural attraction like no other. This latest addition to Assiniboine Park features Canada's largest indoor waterfall, tropical and Mediterranean biomes, a butterfly garden and an onsite garden-to-table restaurant—all surrounded by picturesque thematic gardens. 2022 also saw the reopening of the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada in its new $27-million home. This state-of-the-art facility, located right beside the airport, celebrates this region's history of flight with massive artifacts you can board and cool interactive exhibits that will make your imagination soar. These two showstoppers join the likes of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, our architectural marvel dedicated to fostering a better future for all; Journey to Churchill, where polar bears swim over your head; and Qaumajuq, our new Inuit art centre, which has been celebrated by The New York Times, Forbes, Travel + Leisure and countless design publications. This comes on the heels of TIME magazine naming Winnipeg as one of the "World's Greatest Places" to visit in 2021. Winnipeg is located in Treaty One Territory, the home and traditional lands of the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe), Ininew (Cree) and Dakota peoples, and in the national homeland of the Red River Métis. We're one of Canada's most multicultural cities, a spot where more than 100 languages are spoken and where diversity and inclusivity are celebrated daily. There's always a great meal to be had in Winnipeg. Our culinary scene continues to punch above its weight with beloved cozy diners, nationally acclaimed small plates restaurants and wine bars and bakeries that make magic with all our surrounding grains. Book a table on the frozen Assiniboine River during RAW:almond, a pop-up experience in a beautiful makeshift structure featuring tasting menus from some of North America's best chefs, or walk neighbourhoods like the West End, where a world of flavours is clustered within a few blocks. Our summers bring ample sunlight to explore our winding rivers, verdant parks and streets covered with a majestic elm canopy. Our legendary winters also provide a setting worth celebrating, with the coolest naturally frozen river trail beckoning you to come explore. Throughout this guide, you'll find everything you're looking for to plan your stay or make your current visit a memorable one. From marquee events like performances by Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Winnipeg Folk Festival, to sell-out crowds at Blue Bomber and Jets' games, to hidden gems, like the world's largest snow maze and our many unique museums, we know you'll find a city that's "Made from what's real."
