TAKING CENTRE STAGE
The city is home to some of the most prestigious arts
organizations in Canada. Rainbow Stage, a musical theatre
production company in Kildonan Park, is Canada's largest and
longest-running outdoor theatre.
Winnipeg Jewish Theatre is the only professional theatre
company in the country performing strictly Jewish themes,
while Winnipeg's French theatre company, Le Cercle Molière,
is Canada's oldest continuously running French theatre troupe.
Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet is Canada's oldest ballet
company and the longest continually running ballet company
in North America. In 1953, the company received its royal title,
the first granted under the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
Winnipeg loves Keanu Reeves, particularly because the
actor turned down a reported $12 million to star in
Speed
2,
to instead play the title role in Royal Manitoba Theatre
Centre's 1995 production of
Hamlet.
